Significant increase of the card use Visa by individuals and companies in Spain
Madrid - 23 of January of 2008The use of cards Visa on the part of individuals and companies in Spain significantly grew during the exercise 2007*. The total cost in commerce registered an increase of 14.4%, until reaching a total of 69,600 million Euros. The percentage of cost that is realized with cards Visa on the total cost of personal consumption reaches 11.8% already.
The number of emitted cards Visa grew a 9.4%, being reached a total of 46.2 million cards in circulation in Spain, which means that in the past exercise 4 million new cards were emitted Visa.
Also an important increase has been registered of I number of transactions realized with credit cards Visa in commerce that has reached a total of 599.9 million, 17.3% more than in the previous year. The cost in commerce with the credit cards Visa also registered a fort increase of 20%, reaching a total of 39,200 million Euros.
Increase emphasizes also registered in cost that realizes the holders of cards of Visa company, that has reached a total volume of 6,000 million Euros, which is equivalent to an increase of 14.5% on the number registered in the previous exercise.
“The cost in commerce already represents 53% of the total cost with cards Visa in the Spanish market and so we can say that the efficiency, security and comfort of the payments with card begin to be the option preferred by our holders over the use in automatic tellers�, it points Luis Garci'a Cristóbal, chief of a main directorate Europe Visa in Spain.
The cards Visa maintain in Spain a high level of security since the volume of fraud on the total of cost with cards Visa in our country has been of 0.03%, half of the average of the fraud with cards Visa in Europe. To it contributes the fact that 64% of the commerce and 82% of the tellers in Spain already are adapted to the technology chip EMV. The member financial Visa organizations already have begun the card emission that incorporates this technology.
“Between our priorities for 2008 we want to consolidate the use of the card as the best option for the credit to the consumption, to take advantage of the technological innovations, as the cards without contact for the payments of low amount, to arrive at new sectors and channels�, indicate Garci'a Cristóbal finally.
